about

The first song I wrote on the old piano I borrowed from Mr. Don Dilego. Carted it up to my 3rd floor East Village apartment with the help of some good friends and my very strong Slovenian super. It was very out of tune.
Lovely melodic bass playing from John Young on this track.

lyrics

I got the piano tuned a week ago
It’s in the living room of our little home
No I won’t be playing my guitar
Any more

The sun is shining down on old New York
Across the Brooklyn Bridge up to Central Park
But I’m sitting here alone inside
Trying to write

Girl, won’t you tell me what I’m doing
And girl, won’t you tell me where I’m going
And oh, you never told me the sun was gonna shine
It’s a wonderful surprise
It’s a wonderful surprise

And now she’s calling me from the train
She left here yesterday in the pouring rain
I say “I love you so,” she says “Yes, I know
I’m coming home”

Girl, won’t you tell me what I’m doing
And girl, won’t you tell me where I’m going
And oh, you never told me the sun was gonna shine
It’s a wonderful surprise
It’s a wonderful surprise
It’s a wonderful surprise
